InternetTo Be Connected Or Not To Be ConnectedI am pretty sure that if you are reading this, you are connected. Connected to what, you may ask – the Internet, of course! What exactly is the Internet? The Internet is an electronic network that connects computers worldwide. This thing that we take for granted every day took years to develop. Internet history is a very interesting topic to explore. The idea of the Internet first began in the early 1960’s when scientists needed a way to communicate with other scientists around the world. The first Internet system contained four very primitive and expensive computers. The first users of the Internet were scientists and universities who needed a fast way to get information from one place to another as scientists developed cures for diseases, new medicines, and new technology. The Internet has been one of the many tools used by NASA and other space organizations worldwide. The Internet is something that most people take for granted every day, but took many years and many million dollars to develop into the Internet that we depend on today. My Internet Is Faster Than Yours Before the late 80’s, the only people who were connected to the world via the Internet were mostly science labs, universities, and large businesses – computers and the Internet were simply too expensive. As technology progressed, computers became cheaper to make, which made it possible for people to have computers in their homes. The Internet began to go commercial, making it easier to connect more and more people all over the world – and, once the growth started, it has grown into the Internet that we have access to today from almost any place in the world – our homes, our schools, the library, and even Internet Café’s. And one of the most common questions among Internet users is “How fast is your connection?” The first Internet connections were through telephone wires – what we know today as “Sloooow Dialup” – and what most of us try to avoid. Most places offer a choice of faster Internet connections, but there are still places in the world where dialup is the only connection available – I know, because I just moved from one of these places. In a progressing world, the Internet is also progressing. A person now has options – stay with slow Dialup or move on to high speed Internet. High speed Internet comes in several forms. Satellite Internet use telecommunications satellites that orbit the Earth to provide Internet access to consumers. Satellite Internet is used in placed where DSL and cable access are unavailable to create a faster connection than dialup. The two most popular forms of high speed Internet are DSL and cable. DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a technology that allows information to be transmitted faster over copper telephone lines that are already installed. A cable modem allows cable operators to transmit information using the same coaxial cables currently used to transmit pictures and sound to your TV. Broadband is a term that is used to refer to all forms of high speed Internet. If you have subscribed to high speed Internet and still do not feel your Internet connection is fast enough, there are websites that offer free Internet speed tests that allow you to test the speed of your Internet connection to be sure that you are getting the most from your broadband connection. In this fast-paced world, many people need a connection that gives them the freedom to move from place to place and still maintain their Internet connection. In order to allow people not to be chained to a desk in order to connect, there is wireless Internet – a technology that allows you to connect to the Internet via your laptop computer, your cell phone, or your PDA. This type of connection allows you to be free to be where you need to be! Security And Business The main thing that people worry about when connecting to the Internet is Internet security. With so many businesses taking advantage of the Internet for orders and bill paying, Internet security is a must. Norton Internet Security is one of the leading providers of Internet security – protecting the world from viruses, hackers, and other threats. So, keep your information and your computer safe by subscribing to an Internet security provider. This is one expense that could save you thousands of dollars in the end. Along with any new enterprise, there has to be a way of making money. Some of the most popular phrases on the Internet are: “Be a millionaire in three months!” “Retire in 30 days!” Of course, there are real businesses on the Internet – businesses in which a person can start with a little and work their way to better finances. I, myself, am involved in an Internet business that is wonderful. But, as with anything in life – If it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true. If you are interested in working from home, please be careful of scammers who only want to take your money and leave you high and dry – without your business and without your money. Before deciding to start an Internet business, be sure to research, research, and research some more – and before you give anyone your hard-earned money, be absolutely sure that the business is a real business that offers a real product or service. Don’t fall into the trap that scammers have set for you!
